Hood: Outlaws and Legends to Bring New Multiplayer Experience

Player vs Player (PvP) games have been a staple for many years, but with Hood: Outlaws and Legends, Sumo Digital have taken a new approach, pitting two teams of four players against each other as they try to complete the same mission against difficult NPC foes.

Describing it as PvPvE (player vs player vs environment) in a recent interview, game director Andrew Williams explained how the concept for their new cooperative/competitive multiplayer game came about.

“We actually started off with traditional PvP,” he said, describing how the game, based on the Robin Hood legend, once was a simple team battle pitting a player team of outlaws (good guys) against the bad guys of the state, but problems with game balancing made them take a different track:

“That kind of set us down a path of asking, ‘What would it look like if there were two teams—if it was just rival gangs facing off, but both have the same objective?’”

The result looks to be an exciting and innovative gaming experience. As you build your group of powerful player outlaws and race a similarly-developed team of opponents to enter a castle, get to the vault and steal the treasure.

It looks like a ton of fun, blending both co-op and competitive PvP play in a unique environment.

Hood: Outlaws and Legends is out for PS4/PS5, Xbox One/Series X/S, and PC platforms on May 10th.
