Diablo II: Resurrected Will Open 20-Year-Old Save Files!

In a recent interview on IGN, Blizzard game producer Matthew Cederquist mentioned that original PC save files, now two decades old, would be compatible with the upcoming dungeon-trawling kill-fest, Diablo II: Resurrected.

Back when we were working on [the remaster], we wondered if the old save files would work and we kind of shoved it in and it worked! And we were like, ‘okay, that’s the best feature ever’.

This may be a ‘tell your Dad moment’. It’s fair to say that a huge number of console owners are probably a little too young to have played Diablo II in its original form—and the chances are low that they’ll have worthwhile save files hidden away on a 20GB hard drive somewhere. But, for those who remember the glory days of killing skeletons and opening portals in one of the most influential games of all time, the mere idea that the nostalgia may be improved by actually reusing those dusty characters adds much to the excitement of the upcoming remaster.

Expected before the end of the year, Diablo II: Resurrected is sure to be a time-sucking demon when it is finally with us.
