Intel 11th Gen Edges AMD Ryzen 9

Intel’s CES 2021 keynote, Intel’s 11th Gen i9 processor, was benchmarked against AMD’s Ryzen 9 5900x CPU. Deep Silver’s Metro Exodus title was used in the short clip, with Intel saying they created a script to mimic actual gameplay.

The full specs of the two systems are as such.

Intel

Engadget has very kindly condensed the keynote and uploaded a 10-minute version to YouTube. Skip to 5 minutes and 39 seconds for the segment on 11th gen desktop processors and the side-by-side benchmark.

The results were exceptionally close, with Intel just edging AMD. Intel claim that the 11th generation i9 average 156 frames per second, while AMD’s 5900x closely followed at an average FPS of 147. As per the system specs above, both benchmarks ran at 1080p.

The video was rather misleading, stating the Intel system was running an i7 while AMD’s was using a Ryzen 9, a large disparity between the two processors. It also states that only 16 gigabytes of RAM were present for the test. However, after a bit of digging, the information can be found on an Intel website. It shows the systems to, in fact, be much better matched.
