Breath of the Wild 2 is Coming to the E3 Direct Event
Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2 is one of Nintendo’s most anticipated sequels. A major title set to be a Nintendo Switch exclusive, and a 2022 launch has been teased ahead of the Nintendo Direct E3 event.
Two years ago, we had the first big confirmation that Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2 was finally coming. An announcement for the game surprised everyone at 2019’s E3 Direct event. Ever since, fans have had to sustain themselves on tiny morsels of information with short and mysterious teaser trailers. E3 2021 is about to change everything!
Nintendo recently confirmed they would be hosting a Direct show for the enormous E3 Expo. Excitement levels for the weekend are at a fever pitch since the 2020 E3 Expo was delayed due to the COVID pandemic. The entire conference will be virtual, with each host and partner live streaming their showcases through the official E3 pages—as well as their own channels.
Nintendo Direct at E3 2021 will take place on June 15th and run for 40 minutes—packed with game updates, announcements, and teasers. The showcase is reported to be exclusively focusing on software coming to Nintendo Switch.
Trusted analyst, Dr Serkan Toto of Kantan Games, has let out that Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2 is incoming at E3 2021. In a tweet, Dr Serkan Toto teased fans by quoting the E3 Direct announcement with a tweet that read, “Z2 22”. It doesn’t take an enigma code-breaker to decipher the meaning of that to be ‘Zelda 2, 2022’.
Previous online rumours had predicted either a 2021 or 2022 release date for Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2. We strongly suspect that we will now get final confirmation of a 2022 release date.
The series producer corroborates this, as earlier in the year, he commented that more solid news for Breath of the Wild 2 would be coming in 2021, and as we head into the summer season, E3 Direct would be the ideal moment for big Zelda news. In the Direct from February, it was also noted that “Development is proceeding smoothly, and we should be able to bring you some new information this year” and that, for now, players will have to “wait just a bit longer”.
If we needed any more evidence that Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2 is edging closer, Express.co.uk reported that Monolith Soft are currently hiring. Monolith Soft are working on the Breath of the Wild 2, so this could hint toward development entering its final push.
At least five job listings were created and referenced to working on the Zelda saga. Using some educated guesses, those job applications could take some months to process and for new hires to get started on the Zelda project. A 2022 release date starts to make more and more sense.
The Nintendo Direct for E3 2021 is taking place on Wednesday June 15th at 5pm UK time.
